The book contains 230 engravings by the French artist Gustave Doré (1833–1883) based on the stories from the Scripture and the corresponding texts of the Russian Synodal Bible. The cycle of engravings completed in 1864 illustrates the centuries-old biblical story from the creation of the world to Judgment Day.
